Mart I was lucky enough to stay in a part of London that had so many fantastic and indeed, interesting food places with flavours I had not savoured, I was spoilt for choice.
What to choose?
I`m afraid nostalgia took over and I went for the Scot Steak House.
The memories came flooding back as I feasted on fillet steak without being asked how I wanted it cooked and finished on that old seventies classic, the Black Forest Gateau. Absolutely brilliant, I hope to return in another twenty years. The thought of nostagia food had not occured to me before.
Next day, I`m in Oxford Street, once again spoilt for choice for nibbles.
I found a place called Sofra, which is a mix of Lebanese/Greek/Morocan food.
It was actually a very fun experience, excellent slow cooked beef on an aubergine paste, free olives and hummus, followed by a very unusual cinnamon custard pudding.
However..
The food is brought out on trays twenty inches in diameter, the isles between the tables are about a quarter of that width, one of the waitresses consistently nearly dropped the food, and the staff could not move due to the cramming of the tables.
This gets funnier and involves an incredible coincedence.
The lovely people on the next table were telling me about a "gastro pub" in which they failed to receive any food at all, and how amused they were to read an article in a food magazine, musing about the same problem at the same venue.
Can you imagine their surprise when I revealed they were sitting next to the author of the aforementioned article?
I do recommend the restuarant, when you are in town, but they really can`t cope with the lunchtime rush, get there early.
I have gained a whole six pounds in weight this week, can`t think why........!
