tdf Story in the Mail on Sunday claiming that 30 alleged victims have come forward.

Make of it what you will.
Jo What a ridiculous situation. People can hardly be blamed for thinking that the police force doesn't attract the sharpest tools in the drawer.

That article also seems to show that where the Mail on Sunday leads, Private Eye follows.

The Mail on Sunday seems to be the only newspaper to have come close to questioning the Savile claims, e.g.:
Jimmy Savile's niece's demand for compensation led to police fraud probe: Her own daughter says 'abuse' story is false... so how many more of the 211 claims for vast payments will police investigate?
Revealed: Fake letter that cast doubt on Savile victim's claims... and played key role in BBC decision to ditch its Newsnight investigation

I don't suppose we should hold our breath for Private Eye to follow them along that route, since it appears to have employed self-confessed conman Wilfred De'Ath, one of MWT's sources in his 'exposure' of Jimmy Savile.

"Private Eye occasionally paid me £30 for gossipy paragraphs"
(The Spectator, 1980)
"The conman’s story: I am going straight now, says Wilfred De’Ath, but I have a sweet nostalgia for the many years when I lived in the grand hotels of England and France without ever paying a bill…." (The Caterer)
