Which it should be; you're quite right and that is my point. We DO see good detective work (even by the police finding the killer of that poor girl Joanna Yeates in Bristol despite the media, desperate for a great story, trying to stitch up Christopher Jefferies). That kind of dogged integrity ought to be the norm, not the exception. But worth pointing out when, as in this case, it can be seen. Because it illustrates even more clearly the appalling behaviour in sex cases, which should be punished, not just disciplined.

The investigation in this case evinced a little bit of thoroughness, resourcefulness and imagination. It was a job well done, yes, but only what we should expect from professional detectives.
And of course this methodical approach is not practised by their colleagues in the sexual crimes units.

Somewhat similar case from Ireland a few years' back....'The man with no past'...unfortunately they never managed to trace his next of kin...
