JK2006 Actually in the photo (they lie, red ringed, on the cobblestones) they look very ordinary. This theory only really took shape when I got further, inside information that it was the three police, walking back from the awards ceremony, who were the first victims.
tdf They were rather large kitchen knives. But I agree that he was not an Osama Bin Laden.
JK2006 using something often lacking amongst British officers - common sense.

It is based on the opinion that, however hapless, no serious terrorist who goes to break into the Commons with evil intent carries only two kitchen knives.

I reckon, driving up to his day in town, he saw three uniformed police officers crossing the bridge, snapped, aimed at them, ran them down, realised this was the end so then took out dozens more, crashed his car unintentionally (why not drive through the gates if that was his intention?), used his silly weapons and went to meet his maker.

Poor bonkers loony lone wolf.

I'm sure he had nothing to do with Isis ("great idea Bro; take a couple of knives with you"), planned nothing, had no previous intentions.

Still that's just my opinion.
