verticillium wilt is the critical thing to avoid when growing strawberries
therefore almost anywhere will do except where potatoes and tomatoes have grown
sun, shelter and well drained fertile soil is all that is required

My friend Jane Moore did a brilliant show on strawberries a few years ago - the worst are Elsanta - totally tasteless. I'm with ITK; my mum's strawberries were delicious. Ditto her artichokes - far better than supermarket vegetables. I've just bought (from M&S) some "home grown" ones which I shall eat with cream tonight and hope they taste of something.
