When the police searched Clifford's house after the woman made a complaint, the letter was found in his bedside drawer. Unsurprisingly, the prosecution suggested that this was significant. If he'd had anything to hide, he said, he would have destroyed the letter. He kept it because he thought it might be a precursor to blackmail.

He had a point. Even the victim's therapist had told her the letter's conclusion might read like a threat. But she never did blackmail him. Instead, a couple of years later, she went to the police. Her parents had recently died and this was a factor in her coming forward – she had been ashamed of what had happened, and did not want to hurt them. Clifford said he thought it was a "tragic" letter, but dismissed it as having been written by somebody who was disturbed.[/color]"[/i]

Can't help but wonder if he was jailed for false allegations. It seems a high price to pay, especially as he died in jail. I feel sorry for his daughter.[/quote]

hedda	I can't help thinking Clifford was just an old-fashioned leech like millions of British men (and women) are very Saturday night when on the booze. But his real crime was he was a HYPOCRITE.. even The Bible warns of this and we know KARMA being a BITCH works quietly in the background. Lord help any ex-copper who may have indulged in hypocrisy.
