Maybe the Russian regime wants people to know it was them, e.g. to send a message to other perceived traitors that they can't escape the Russian state and show Britain to be a weak country where this can happen on its own soil and it can do nothing about it.

Jo	Not sure if claiming to have a geography degree, being on Facebook or previously visiting the UK would discount someone from being a spy.
