Mart
As this particular establishment fitted all the current criteria required for marerial that the Guardian have been asking for, I promised the owners after briefly test running their menu when they opened, that I would return when they had settled in properly and do the whole review for them, not only for their website but for my usual recipents to peruse.
Two weeks ago, I returned to do this.
We were turned away from an empty restuarant as we had not booked.
Mrs Mart was fuming, but having this happened to me on tour so many times I take it in my stride.
And so onto last night for the review.
The starter was a shared platter of way too thick smoked salmon, raw tasteless paneer was used as a substitute for feta and there was some partuclarly fatty parma ham.
The asparagus season is just starting locally, and so I asked for the "fresh" asparagus gnocchi in lemon butter.
The bitter taste of air-freighted green bamboo like asparagus hit me. Cooking it might have been a good idea as well.
The skate wing was swimming in a bowl of oil and served with from the freezer potato croquettes, of all things.
The cream on both our liquer coffees had sunk to the bottom, and was served in beer glasses.
I might add, that this a polite review for all board readers amusement, Mrs Marts` review which has been sent to the chef is far more lurid.
I shall spare naming and shaming them on the web as I believe any publicity can be turned into good publicity, suffice to say,
