Barney	The contaminated blood saga, which lasted for years - infecting thousands with AIDS and HIV - is being described as chilling and harrowing. As well as 'the greatest treatment disaster in the history of the NHS' - which is about 70 years old. No doubt, blame will be passed around - with legal cases lasting for generations. On the face of it though, the decision to buy uncertified/unverified blood plasma products seems frightening. It clearly begs the question - what else did they buy?
Barney	One has started; the other just announced. Contaminated blood products were administered, leading to at least 2,000 deaths; these had been sourced from the US where some of the blood used has been bought from prisoners - who, seemingly, had not been tested appropriately. Painkiling opiates are to be the subject of the new inquiry - not the first, by any means. It would appear that thousands were prescribed and given dosage levels that were far too high, resulting again in numerous unnecessary deaths. Not a good day for the NHS...
