Barney Babe Ruth - The Bambino - was transferred 100 years ago today.

From the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees.

Perhaps baseball's most iconic player - who became an early superstar.

And certainly sport's first famous transfer.

Ruth earned over $1,000 a week...

Barney You may well be right.

Barry Bonds, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth - are legends.

Or whatever ranks above that status.

They even changed how the American youth thought.

And what he/she wanted and desired.

All too often from ghettos, and areas of abject/unimaginable poverty - and living standards.

JK2006 All eclipsed in quality, in my opinion, by Baseball.
Barney Lucrative - yes!

The English Premier League earns £1.7 billion a year - in TV rights alone.

More than half a billion more than each of the top leagues in Germany, France and Spain!

With the possible exceptions of golf, F1 and tennis - no other sport generates as much income.

And those three sports have relatively few participants earning top dollar.

F1, maybe 20? The rest, the same. Football - 1000+.....
