Pet...love...and the magnificent Northumbrian coast, where spades are called just that.
No family baggage, or boring love interests to fill in gaps - just murder investigations.
Excellent dialogue, story lines and acting. And a magic location - so different from LA and Manhattan.
See Whitley Bay and Lindisfarne this summer - and Alnwick Castle, where Harry Potter was filmed.
Perhaps England's finest abode - and home to Charles' mate; Percy, the Duke of Northumberland.

I didn't know that..and I adore her (love all Mike Leigh's work as well).

I know what you mean; it's always on ITV3 - a great place to get good shows at a better time!

I like Vera, but it seems to be on at the wrong time for me because I fall asleep halfway through it.
I will have to add it to the heap of books, albums and dvd box-sets that I am saving for when I get old and ill or bored in "Shady Pines"
Mind you, at nearly sixty, I think I might be running out of time to get through it all.
I have still got a few Dickens, most of the Stones LPs, and the last Poirot book to look forward to.
Do other people do this, or is it just me?

I love Brenda Blethyn (another Mike Leigh protege) and this is one of the few ITV "musts" but she's starting to look like Paddington Bear. At any moment she'll produce sandwiches out of that hat.
