Sports Direct - soon to be rebranded Frasers - have about 700 outlets, and provide highly efficient and fast sales transactions.
Particularly if you know exactly what you want - and don't need your inside leg measured, and superfluous sales talk.
Low prices (comparable to internet ones), High Street locations and the ability to try the product on - are what the consumer wants.
Wetherspoons and Ryanair/EasyJet have successfully provided similar no-frills services in other businesses.
Just one example. The traditional Fish & Chips; battered cod, peas and chips - is £13.75 at Cafe Rouge in Epsom.
Across the road in Wetherspoons, the exact same meal is £8.50 - £5 less! Same quality/standard.
Retail and service industries will survive - but only those who quickly adapt to fast changing markets.

My constant blaming of Brexit is NOT saying that Brexit was or is directly responsible for closures etc. I don't think it matters very much. What is at fault is the stupidity of asking the uninformed public to make a simple decision on a complex question; in fact, government abdicating responsibility. And the fact that the expense and effort of changing is way more than any benefits or problems caused by jumping off a horse in mid race.
The way this country is being run is ridiculous - that's why our economy is collapsing.
It will get much worse. |

Beales did a lot aquisitions earlier this century (mainly Bental's stores), but like Woolworth's, BHS etc. neglected to keep up with the times. They were competing against online retailers under a mountain of debt. Their failure was inevitable. Not Brexit's fault this time. |

SportsDirect is Godsend for rucksacks and bags for salesman job. They are cheap but good quality. The faux leather bags are handy to carry my samples.
Their cheap trainers are comfy enough for driving long distances. |

I was at their Bournemouth branch recently. It's a dated lay out (Grace Bros came to mind) and it's ridiculously expensive. The clothes are nothing special either.
Nothing to do with Brexit.
It seems they had a major shoplifting problem, in which in Bournemouth is nothing new.
