Or "Duck".

I've been called "Ducky" thousand's of times when cleaning table's in gay bars.
Jo If it was just someone calling everyone "honey" I'd agree that it isn't an issue, but along with the other behaviour described in the article it does sound discriminatory.
Green Man I'm was/am always getting called "Honey" "Sweetheart" "Doll" "Sweetie" especially in Texas and Alabama. I never took offence and why should I ?

I have always found Texans to be warm and very sweet people.

If you're walking along the streets strangers will greet you especially if you're a tourist; and if see someone carrying heavy shopping, the guys will offer to carry and expect nothing in return apart from a simple 'thank you'.

If you're friendly and complimentary to their wonderful hospitality and state it goes a long way.
There's nothing wrong with the poor folk whom live in trailer parks, they just want to be treated as yourself would like to be treated.
They will leave you alone if you leave alone...if you don't know anyone who resides in a park then you have no business to go in, unless it's official or you're interested in buying a trailer. The residents maybe less fortunate but they pay rent, work hard and are raising a family; they don't accept government handouts nor gun loving nuts like the liberal media portray them to be. If they have a gun so what ? It's their 2A right.

I did make a joke over there once. Everything is big in Texas apart from my height; 5'7 with socks on. Most Texan blokes are tall 6 ft+.

JK2006 I'm with the Greeks and Romans; milk and honey are the nectars of the Gods.
