But why castigate a guy who was just trying to raise a couple of hundred quid?
You would need to ask someone who has castigated Cap'n Tom to get an answer to that.
I didn't say that the recipients weren't as important.

Nobody has castigated him at all, you moron!

Indeed yes all the media is in lock step.
I have no doubt Sir Tom's heart was in the right place and he did his charity work for all the right reasons.
JK brings up a good point which should be bleeding obvious yet not one media hand maiden has yet twigged to it:
What this dear Old Soldier has done is expose the dreadful failings of various governments to support the NHS despite their rhetoric about Tom.
"Nu" Labour shares blame here with the Tories with their privatization and sells offs of bits of the NHS.. half in and half out..where even Blind Freddy could you was a recipe for disaster because of the need to make a profit.
( as usual Keir Starmer MIA)
## Counting down now to the day One Journalist / Hackette (reads this forum) and crafts a tale of Captain Tom's heroic efforts to help prop up a failing NHS which is needed more than ever now and we all should be ashamed etc etc yadda yadda.. along those lines.
## Shame he hadn't been a Major Tom as that Bowie song would have been great for his funeral.

He didn't have to raise funds for the NHS he chose to.
Perhaps because of the media and Gov portrayal that the NHS was on the point of collapse. Which is what we are told every winter.
He did a good thing walking around his garden and found himself turned into a national treasure by the media. He may have done 100 shitty things during his life for all we know. St Tom; give me a break. A person isn't defined by one act.
If you look at where the money he raised went it was not on core operational stuff but "staff well being funds" and Covid victim support groups.
This isn't about NHS funding; it is about media manipulation and Gov distraction techniques.
And no one clapped anyway so there is some hope left for the country...
