It was a classic, emotionally based reaction to the events in 2001. Tony Blair’s deficit-need for parental approval was a contributory factor. Remember the photos of him receiving the US Medal of Freedom? Every one has an inner as well as an outer life.

I also wonder if Blair's and Bush's Christian beliefs played a part, at even an unconscious level - the new Crusades?

Green Man Bin Laden was a scapegoat.
Wyot We followed our US masters and invaded a poor country.

A mad man had attacked the US and a group called The Taliban were said to have allowed him to do this from their country. After many years of fighting and deaths, we were still getting nowhere (no one had ever got anywhere in Afghanistan but the US leaders didn't dig history) so decided to work with The Taliban. Then we pulled out of Afghanistan for he same reason we entered: to look good to our electorate and media.

As soon as we did The Taliban went and stabbed us in the back (who would have thought it!!) by taking over the whole country; which was pretty easy as we had set them up to be able to do this.

Now the whole country will be under a medieval religious tyranny and we will all be at more risk; not that it matters because a terrible plague called Covid will finish us all off before God inspired bombers can.

The moral of the story is never doing anything by half: whether picking a bogey or colonisation.
