I agree but the common factor here is : Rupert Murdoch.
I once met Australian billionaire Kerry Packer's brother Clyde Packer at a party in London in the late 70s.
He traveled the world purchasing programs for his brother's Aust TV network.( a gigantic man who wore only kaftans and was driven around in a Rolls convertible by a leather clad female Chauffeur )
I asked him how he chose the programs..response : "it I don't like it or it's absolute shit I know the Aussie audiences will lap it up".
Rupert has reduced UK media to Australian standards.

I can't fathom out why soaps are depressing and the appeal to reality TV.
Depressing? No, they are comedy shows.

In Talking Pictures - on BBC2 - one of the great actors, one of my favourites and highly intelligent, articulate and attractive. But Michael Parkinson was SO good. Why don't we get interviewers like that anymore? I know exactly why. Superficiality. It has taken over humanity. Why? It makes life (and TV) far less enjoyable. I think Talking Pictures and new shows like that should be on BBC Prime Time. I've said before - Sylvia Syms is a terrific (voice over) host too. I repeat; give her a BAFTA, before it's too late.
DEPTH. Bring back depth. On TV, in films, on radio, in media, in journalism and in law. For God's Sake. We are NOT all Twits!
