I doubt that the Islington Elite have any idea about buses and how batty this scheme would work out to be in practice.
Where I used to live if it snows or there's ice of the roads all buses are cancelled until further notice. Not forgetting the buses stopped running at 18:30 in the evening. If you missed you were screwed and taxi's drivers would take advantage of the situation with fares. Again there are dodgy taxi drivers around.
Where I live now there are only 2 buses one in the morning and one in the evening - any road works that are going on buses won't even drive through the area. So you either have to walk, cycle or drive. I wouldn't bother with walking because there's no pavement. There nearest petrol station is 6 miles away. So you are pretty much screwed if you're not mobile.

When has any MP, PM, etc ever lived in the real world. Even teachers lack life experience in theory they never left school. Teachers seem to be thick as planks of wood - but I am not insulting wood because wood is useful material. |

I think this "helpful suggestion" as well as the others from the Met could be interpreted to mean that they think she could have flagged down that bus.
My mum was sexually assaulted as a young woman by a passer-by when walking down a city street in winter when it got dark early. She went to a bus waiting at a bus stop and banged on the door to get help. The driver didn't open the door, just pointed down the street.
Bus driving is not a glamorous job but it's an important job. Drivers have enough reasonability making sure passengers are safe and dealing with impatient road users also. Giving them the extra reasonability to look for lone women will had more stress to their job.
I wonder how many nutty people off the general public will flag down buses for the sake of it ? If you are in trouble members of the public rarely intervene these days for their own safety or risk off getting sued. A lot of people rather stay silent and record incidents on their phones either to give to the police of for their social media.
My dad intervened a fight once between a man and a woman, my dad ended up getting head-butted which caused a broken nose and suffered a broken tooth. Then woman started to join and warned my dad to "stay out off other peoples business".
Yes. A lot of people wont intervene, because THE POLICE told us NOT TO!  |
