Turkey had or has very strict laws on what you can take out off the country especially on small antiques. However getting counterfeit wallets and bags are very good quality. I bought a leather "Harley Davidson" wallet over there it lasted for years.
A friend of mine was advised not to go to Singapore because he cigar chomping, gum chewer and a flaming homosexual who even made Siegfried and Roy look straight. He never had any issues in Singapore because he respected and followed all the laws.
However he wouldn't be seen at any pride parade, he don't wave any rainbow flag, nor would he use proper pro-nouns and he don't see himself of the LGBT community or any other form of alliance. He is happy to be in a civil-partnership and he don't blame his life problems on society.
We were out walking together a couple of years ago for lunch. We group of people of 12 or so marching in the high street, they were carrying the rainbow flag, he looked at them with a stern look and he said to them in a very camp voice "No body cares now and coming out is soooooooooo 1980's" in which made choke with laughter.
He came out at 13 years old and he parent's didn't care either.
