Green Man My copy of Satanic Verses was in a thift store just days after it was published. I haven't bothered looking at his other novels.

If you want to be revolted, stocked and laugh at the same time read Tom Sharpe. Not in public though, I did read Wilt I was bursting out laughing in the bar and subway.

I did get a seat to myself and a drug addicted from the hood no doubt, asked me If I had taken something I shouldn't had he was concerned?

When I told the plot line of Wilt and of course the blow up doll. He said is Wilt a real person ?
JK2006 I hated Midnight's - gave up on Satanic after a few pages - just do not like his writing.
Wyot Sales of Satanic Verses rocketing; praise be to whichever God is arranging this...

Tam It's sad that fear of seeming racist limits our militant atheists from denouncing these fanatics. You wouldn't believe the number of white middle class female academics are straining to explain away the subjugation of women in Islamic countries. It's astonishing. As Rushdie himself noted, the convenient relativism of many western commentators leaves the road clear for violence and persecution.
Green Man Wyot wrote:
The only "religion" I have time for is Buddhism. It is about compassion, love for all and denial of ego. It is the only inclusive religion, that can happily encompass any other, or atheism, rather than draw infantile battle lines.

Rushdie can be bit hit and miss for me but I loved some early stuff - and re read Midnight's Children earlier this year. I
dearly hope he pulls through and this vile evil, fascist strain in society of shutting everyone up who disagrees with you is thwarted.
