We can't solve problems if we can't publically identify them or reach out to the protagonists.
The same problem applies to gangs and knife attacks: primarily driven by young men of afro-carribean descent. The problem sits in their culture and up bringing.
Though one would think from the coverage that 80 year old white women were as likely to be involved.
Great news that Mr Rushdie is talking and off the ventilator. I hope everyone buys a copy of Satanic Verses today - that it tops bestseller lists globally for weeks; even if most don't read it!

So what can we do, as a society, to stop these incidents. Sadly the answer is nothing. There will always be a section of mentally crippled specimens in every species. We've just given them encouragement by allowing ease of communication. I think lack of publicity by media is the best thing - I notice no photos yet of the Rushdie attacker. Suffocate the loonies with lack of oxygen. If they don't get famous they won't think it worth doing.

Watching Salman fighting for his life and the incident immediately provoking hundreds of death threats on Social Media really tells you something about the sickness of our species, doesn't it? This tiny diseased section of society which I'm sure, like all sick people, is not aware they are cracked, is expanding. Or perhaps it was always there (the green ink brigade) but the difficult task of writing and having to pay for a stamp made them less visible. JK Rowling is right to complain. Celebrities never know when loonies cross the line between bonkers messages and violent acts.
