Pamela was amazed to hear the story from before he met Elton when I got a call from the wonderful Madeleine Bell (Blue Mink etc). She knew I virtually programmed Top of the Pops in those days, the team there having great faith in my taste in music and knowing I could not be hyped. "You must get Reg on the show", she said. "Reg?". "You know the gay little piano player in John's band". So she sent over this single - Your Song. I loved it; called Mel Cornish (the TOTP Producer at the time) and said "you have to book this kid". So I am responsible for Elton's career.

with John Reid who I first knew in the 1960s when he was label manager at EMI for a tiny imprint called Motown so we all called him Pamela (and I still do; he tells me the only other living person who does is Johnnie Walker).
Lots of wonderful nostalgia about dozens of mutual friends, many now sadly departed.
