It was poetic justice for Max Clifford, he was an awful PR man for a lot of groups from the 1960's venues believed his BS and the groups were banned from performing in clubs.
I love how The Guardian put a class-spin on Beech, no he was believed because it was a good story and in the hype of Operation Yewtree. It was after Glitter's arrest and imprisonment.
Tom Watson and LBC lapped it up also.

The beginning of the end was Carl Beech. Supported by the appalling Exaro, desperate to own a great story, they brought down the media. Police and lawyers loved it until it started to collapse. Millions had made money from the Savile fiasco, taking it away from charities, actually killing children who would no longer benefit from the money pledged to Leeds Hospital to build and run a life saving heart unit.
Crooks don't care who dies - lawyers got rich; false accusers made small amounts; children died (and are still dying); police got promoted; but media loved the great (and false) story.
But Beech was the big one. An ex Prime Minister! A Tory! Dead!
It failed. Just as Max Clifford's unwise attempt to make millions from falsely accusing me (and getting a conviction for crimes that never took place) resulted in his death Karma Kan Kill.
How can they lose? Glitter was convicted. He's served time in jail. Media love him - hoping someone will assault him. Photo op!
Watch out Media. Watch out ambulance chasers. Watch out liars. Watch out bent cops.
Karma is Koming for you. |

I met Gary a few times - when he was Paul Gadd (warmup man on Ready Steady Go) and then when he was Glitter. 90% of Glitter was Mike Leander. Gary seemed fine to me - in dressing rooms he demanded privacy half an hour before stage as he "Became The Leader". I'm sure he fancied the odd groupie - most did in those days. He once "came on" to my secretary who politely said NO - no problem. Society has changed thanks to the media and these days anyone who ever found anybody under 16 attractive deserves life in prison. In my opinion humanity is delightedly charging towards the clifftop of extinction. Good luck to it. I shan't be here when the lemmings dive over.
That's interesting. I agree that Mike Leander created a Frankenstein Monster. Glitter had style but talent was zero. I never did see him live but I have heard a lot of bootlegs.
I am not sure if it's just the tape deterioration or the recording equipment. He sounded off key, slurred in the 1990's gig. Nothing like Gary Glitter's Gangshow which was recorded the late 80's in Glasgow.
Glitter probably wrote the odd line for a song. I did read that Mike Leander did all the instruments on the GG albums and put on a multitrack. The sax was was done by John Rossall the original Glitter Band member.
Leader II is probably his best album and GG son did the producing. I feel bad for his offspring. |

I know you knew Mike Leander and I think he was underrated. He did wonderful work with Alan Price and Peter Frampton.
Out of curiosity JK, did you ever know met/know Glitter. A client of mine let it out they he didn't live far from GG in Oxfordshire. ( I won't specify the specifics)
He said 'I would see Glitter around a lot with groups with a look of arrogance on him despite being a very short man. Especially when he was around young women/teens.'
However no one was going to ask him about who they were?
'However he could be civil to the local people when the mood suited him. He always dressed sharp and wore his wigs out, which he wore with great care. He did say there could be a haunting and lonely look on Gary when he went for walks on his own.'
I have heard in the past say GG was an enigma before his arrest about the laptop. So maybe he might of stayed indoors a lot with his laptop if he wasn't touring.
I am still astonished how he had it all, money, drugs, tours I wouldn't be surprised if he was going to get a title from the Queen.
He surely fucked it up for himself and his associates who did nothing wrong. |
