I'll be very interested to see the film. It's one hell of a challenge to do justice to the books, both on an artistic and technical level. Far more of a challenge than the makers of the Harry Potter films were faced with. |

Nice review as well Anthony.
Not enough is written about how "nice" a good mood of melanchoiness can be achieved by writings.
Consider putting the case of the most read things , which are tabloids and throw away mags, and you open a whole can of worms as to how large groups of , largely non reading people, can feel all day after reading a simple devils advocate style headline, probably written by someone with a lot more sense than they choose to show. |

Glad you enjoyed it Anthony; for me, the single finest work of literature in the last ten years.
The film(s) will be huge. |

I have just finished reading the Philip Pullman trilogy you covered in Attitudes and Opinions, asking for our thoughts.
What a wonderful, magical piece of literature. Love, hate, violence, war, science fiction, pure fantasy- it has everything, a labyrinth of brilliance, every paragraph beautifully crafted, all in a work intended for children. It is also full of allegory and satire, giving a massive kick up the arse of religion, and delivering a positive message.
I don't recall ever being so captivated by and immersed in a piece of literature. I have actually been feeling melancholy all day because I have come to the end of such an enjoyable journey, and I am not easily moved! |
