JK2006 Yes that was when I started to go off it WYOT - I liked the first episode and I still like the way the atmosphere of the era is captured (the swearing; the dirt and grime). I actually think the first chapter is almost impossible to damage; it is perhaps the greatest chapter ever written. That and the storm scene in King Lear will probably always be the top two. I think I've watched every interpretation of any Dickens ever made as he is almost God to me. And funnily enough, dreadful though this is, it illustrates perfectly the way humanity has changed in 200 years. Nothing complex, subtle or intelligent is acceptable. That in itself is fascinating and makes it a weirdly masochistic experience.
Wyot We demand to know what motivates you to continue watching JK?! My (easy) separation came 23 mins into episode 2...
JK2006 but not for the tabloid reasons - because all the little bits they've changed in the plot were the bits I most loved about the novel. Apart from the start (which nobody could change but even there the missing points were annoying) all the other its (horrid sister dying; Joe marrying Biddy; Magwitch making millions down under)... this version is very 2023 and illustrates how humanity has diminished.
