Hanks is a very likeable person and great actor. I loved Sully, Elvis, Larry Holmes, a man called Otto, and Sleepless in Seatle, although it is not as good as When Harry Met Sally, which is the gold standard for Rom-coms. I hated Appollo 13, and Bridge of Spies. Haven't seen Castwaway (apart from the Oliver Reed and Amanda Donohoe movie based on the Lucy Irvine story, which I suspect is better. My favourite actor is recent years, has to be Stephen Graham, also a lovely decent guy too.
I was forced to sit through Sleepless in Seattle, I thought I would hate it but ended up shredding a tear, the same with Philadelphia. It was You Got Mail that I thought was just trash.
Boiling Point is a very good film and Stephen Graham made it realistic, if you worked in hospitality with fiery hot-head chefs it is so true to life. |

I love Graham who also is the mentor of Jodie Comer - Killing Eve - fast becoming our best British actress. |

I watched Bridge of Spies the other night which starred Hanks and Rylance. I agree they are both top actors but I think Rylance is the greater because he can inhabit any character. Hanks tends to play (wonderfully) very similar types - a principled man battling the odds to do the right thing.
I find Tom Hanks very hit and miss, I hated Apollo 13 but love Castaway. I found his rom-coms dreadful but Joe Vs The Volcano has a nice love story.
Big is an iconic 1980's movie, I saw it several times in the cinema. It was better than the jumbled mess that was Vice Versa.
I have yet to see the Elvis movie. |
