Watching the BBC News coverage of the 20 year anniversary of the final Concorde flight - I was the most Concorded passenger (369 flights - I have every single boarding pass - several on Air France from Paris to New York). They automatically gave me Seat 1A and - in the last years - automatically upgraded me from the cheapest economy BA seat to my usual Concorde seat (I could no longer afford the fare though, in the early days, record companies footed the bill).
I remember once, after Elton John had re-negged on his promise to appear live on The Brits, made after I pledged to break his flop singles Healing Hands and Sacrifice in return for his appearance, when he paid for me to fly First Class from London to Los Angeles to film a segment, when I refused the ticket saying "I only ever fly supersonic"."That is the grandest remark I've ever heard", he said, but paid the upgrade.
I loved that plane. Left my bed in London and got into my bed in my New York apartment at exactly the same time. Bliss.
You are responsible for the wretched Sacrifice dirge?
You cant half go off people .
I do find a lot of Elton's back catalogue a dirge and listenable but Sacrifice is an appalling song. I do love the Tumbleweed Connection album. |

Yes sorry about that Honey. Healing Hands was my choice. Elton insisted on Sacrifice too, as it was selling in France. So I agreed to make it a double A side and suggested he pledged all royalties of the single to his charity (in order to get support for the re-release - cynical old JK). It worked! |

A supersonic King! Does the above mean that for 369 days of your life time stood still and you didn't age...
That is deep. |

For many years I had homes in both London and New York and enjoyed spending a month in each. As I grew annoyed by one city, I moved to the other, then back again. So, on average, it was 24 trips a year (many before Concorde started - I was on the very first Concorde to Washington; interviewed at length on the US TV Networks). |
