When the sun in shining, Londoners go to Brighton - it's less than an hour from Victoria, on a direct line.

Seafront hotels there - like The Grand and Metropole - cost and absolute fortune, for food and accommodation.

Shame. I have fond memories of good days and nights and meeting friendly people in Bournemouth during the 70/80s.

It was just far enough from London without the possibly more sophisticated Brighton mob.

Good beach as well.

The beach is fantastic even in Boscombe which is a junkie's and a hookers paradise.

Bournemouth does not have a decent high street. If the hotels go in Bournemouth do the theatre's that keep the town on life support close also?

Another hotel bites the dust. I used to do some work around there.

Just because there is a tourist tax does not mean it will go to businesses or the residents. People will go elsewhere. I am sure the London mob will go to Essex or Kent for the beach.

Then again it's cheaper to go abroad for holidays.

GM it's the same all over. Liverpool included.

I don't really know Liverpool to be honest.

An American friend of a friend has been house hunting there and is toying with the idea of moving.

He is frugal so he can afford it. He was told not to move to Dingle. I am not sure of the details why he wants to move.

I agree the problem are all around the country...some places are better than others.

It's scary how towns can go down the crapper within a few years.
Wyot An assumption is made that money will "fix" these issues. If only it were that simple...
