Three and a half years was quite enough, thank you - but those who think in simplitic terms must, quite rightly, wonder why I didn't want to spend the rest of my life there. I'm a bit unusual in that simplistic solutions don't hit the spot. My fantastic life continues with incredible variety and will until I pass away. |

Well the stars of the show are Emily Bolton and Appeal - I hope people are donating large sums of money to them. Because there are not just hundreds of others but thousands - the damage has been enormous and is ongoing. It makes the Post Office scandal look trivial. But I noticed that Andrew Malkinson wasted and hated his time in prison. I found my time inside fantastic. I was able to help or comfort some of the many wrongly convicted. And even many of the correctly imprisoned. Andrew would not now be such a ruined human being if he'd thought about others instead of himself.
You found your time inside fantastic - perhaps you could have asked them if you could serve the whole 7 years you had handed down by the judge then if it was so bloody marvellous. |

This case was shocking. Malkinson was nicked because he had been stopped for riding pillion on a motorbike and the copper thought he looked like the photo-fit. He looked nothing like the photo-fit. Then "trusted" eyewitnesses had claimed to witness seeing Malkinson at the scene of the crime. They were found to be serial false evidence providers and looking to do a plea bargain. Malkinson's only way out of jail was to talk through the events that led to him doing the rape, even though he didn't do it.
I'm amazed that Andrew isn't angry with the false accuser who picked him out at the identity parade. That act destroyed his life, he should be furious. The man should be getting millions in compensation, but yet he has zippence. The subject of Baby reindeer is wanting £122 million, Andrew's case is 100 times worse than that. He deserves millions. I think we should crowd fund for compensation for him.
Money will help but it solve everything. Sadly, the officers have no doubt retired or found new jobs and kept their pensions.
I did read an article that Andrew addicted to H, so now doubt he was known to the police for petty crimes. (if there is such a thing)
The photo fit is a joke, he was probably set up by officers that knew Andrew and wanted him out the area. Probably why the DNA samples were awful and lost. |

There have indeed been several PROVEN cases over past years and I can assure you many thousands that have NOT been overturned as the victims have no money or determination. Most, faced by "the system", simply give up. But I found the film fascinating. Note the two "witnesses" - now both dead - found to have had amazing, co-incidental charges against them dropped when they agreeed to assist police by giving false witness. A good Private Investigator or, in Malkinson's case, lawyer can often get stuff on these villains. And Judges are starting to notice, when witnesses suddely die or go senile or whatever, that the lack of evidence tends to prove the defendant's case.
But these facts MUST be discovered before trials. It is so hard (and expensive) to overturn a wrongful conviction; most give up, accept their fates - there are only so many cases Appeal can take on. And THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. The CCRC should do this. Or police, before trials. Or even sometimes Prosecution Lawyers (check out Liam Allen's case). |
