Magic at Christmas most certainly still exists - it's just about how you make it!
Trading then though has reduced, because of new types of trading methods.
Why queue for a new TV in a W1 sale - when it can be delivered, by a button press!?

There is no magic at Christmas these day and is no joy period.
I miss the carol singers singing in town centres or volunteers handing free hot drinks or the odd cup of mulled wine for £1 or so. Now it's about £6 for a tiny cup. Then there are expensive car park fees.
No one wishes people a Merry Christmas as they don't want to offend certain religious groups.
Things are more expensive in the UK than they are in other countries.
I used to buy a lot of official and branded sportswear from South Africa and sold them on. It was a nice little side hustle. I was still charging cheaper than the UK retailers for the same stuff.
