Like 9/11 the Diana death is the one where we all remember where we were. In 97 I was working in Bristol and deeply unhappy. Very warm but very depressing summer. Just 33. Blair had just got in power.

Princess Diana went to Grace Kelly's funeral too. 15 years later when it was her own I remember the commentator Tom Fleming mentioning this fact during her own send off and how poignant the parallels seemed, even at the same time of year but for a few days.
Al Gershwin
Kelly's second movie was the Fred Zimmermann directed High Noon - with the much older Gary Cooper.
A classic/great success, the movie (a Western) made Kelly famous - she retired from acting at 26.
Having married - like Diana - into a royal family; she lived in Monaco for 25 years until her death.

Watching Rear Window again. She makes Princess Diana look like Big Bird from Sesame Street. Both dying in car crashes. That's Kelly and Diana. Big Bird is still alive as far I'm aware. Maybe always a price to pay for being fabulously attractive? Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe... There's no glamour today.
