JK2006 I am implacably opposed to all organised religions (check out I Hate CocaCola) but you need to watch Extreme Pilgrims on BBC2 for a tremendous look at them.
Anthony The fact that religion is still so powerful and predominant, particularly in our relatively advanced and well educated Western world, never ceases to amaze me.

Religions have had perhaps 5000 years to persuade me of their beliefs, and have failed to provide one scrap of evidence. The hardliners would even have the nerve to describe me as a heretic or infidel, like it's up to me to provide the evidence that their fairy stories are wrong! If I decide to declare that there are some invisible elves living in my garden shed, then I think the onus is upon me to provide some concrete facts to convince people that I am not insane, not the other way round!

Of course, conveniently, it's all about faith, but why I should have faith in the fanciful inventions of some Middle Eastern desert dwellers thousands of years ago is quite beyond me.

I do apologize if I have offended people with religious convictions. That isn't my intention, and I have no problem with people comforting themselves with faith, as long as they don't keep trying to sell their ideas to me. I almost envy them. It must be nice to believe there is some higher power looking after us, and that we will live on eternally after death. It is a bit ridiculous when you think about it though, isn't it?

To return a bit more specifically to topic, and Mr. Blair, love him or loathe him, his intelligence and high degree of education is indisputable. How the likes of him still buy into religion beggars belief.
JP Interesting theory, although man himself does not have the authority to declare himself good and another evil; that would be God. However, you point out something - contradictions in Christian beliefs from the holy book itself, thus meaning Blair and his six figure position fit nicely in that concept, which explains why any Christian group would welcome him with open arms!
