certain parts wanted to be Russian
According to the Kremlin. But not according to Pew Research Center surveys done after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. According to those, most people in Ukraine wanted Ukraine to remain one country, including most people in eastern Ukraine, even Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine. And according to the Carnegie Politika article from 2022, pro-Russian feelings in eastern Ukraine fell dramatically following the invasion and support for actual reunification with Russia in Ukraine's east had not been particularly high.

What Next for Ukraine’s Formerly Pro-Russian Regions? (2022)
... Ironically, the regions that have borne the brunt of Russia’s invasion are those that were always most likely to vote for pro-Russian political parties. Just two years ago, Viktor Medvedchuk’s pro-Russian Opposition Platform–For Life bloc won local elections for the Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Kherson regional legislatures.
In recent years, despite growing tensions with Russia and the threat of war, this part of Ukraine had retained generally positive attitudes toward its neighbor to the east: 53 percent in Ukraine’s east and 45 percent in the south viewed Russia favorably. Some—though not many—went as far as to support unification with Russia: 22 percent in the Luhansk region, and 11 percent in the Kherson region.
Russia’s invasion largely put an end to this pro-Russian sentiment: by May 2022, only 4 percent in Ukraine’s east and 1 percent in the south still had a positive view of Russia. Support for Ukraine joining NATO, on the other hand, had surged to record highs: 69 percent in the east and 81 percent in the south, up from 36 percent in the east and 48 percent in the south, according to a poll taken on February 16 and 17 of this year. ... |

I think Ukraine HAS to give up Crimea - Russia should never have invaded it but nothing was done and too much time has passed.
Likewise SOME of the invaded territory - Russia again was wrong to invade but certain parts wanted to be Russian.
A guarantee of no further aggression or the rest of the world WILL get involved.
And I approve of the car bombed General and think - before/unless a ceasefire - The Kremlin should be bombed. |
