I did all my extensive European travels early on and I'm pleased I did.
I still recall visiting the Coliseum when there were about 20 other tourist and heaps of stray cats. Now the queue stretches forever. Love Venice but the crowds would really put me off now.
The last 20 years I just concentrated on Thailand mainly because I have friends who live there but there's everything you could possibly want in the Land of smiles. 5 star hotels at 3 star prices, great friendly people and lots of nightlife and nice beaches.

Perhaps Barney was just helpfully pointing out that there's no NHS there - health insurance is also quite expensive.
