Last time I was in New York was 10 years ago and hated it. Hadn't been since the 90s. You are right Hedda. Times Square was dreadful. Once you've done the naked Cowboy, and dodged a ton of hustlers, you have to get out. I did manage to visit the Dakota building last time though, which was always something I'd been meaning to do. Not just because of Lennon, but also where Rosemary's Baby was set and used for exterior shots. Highlight was Greenwich Village for me. But that too is very touristy now. As is Dumbo. Yep, a lot of places have lost their soul and authenticity.

I have not been to Nevada for ages, but Vegas is just an adult playground; it's not a place to visit often. Unless you can afford it for live music IMHO.
When I went to Vegas, it was mostly for gigs. The famous pawn shop is now a tourist trap, but I did find cool stuff to kit out my pub in the past. I was served by a very young Corey Harrison.
The pawn shop is on the very rough end of Vegas. When I last went to Vegas, it was in 2014 to see Steve Miller Band, Journey and Tower of Power on the same bill. It used to be cheap to go to Vegas (USA in general) for a couple of nights, which included flights, hotels and a visa, etc.
Taxi drivers were warning tourists that the pawn shop is in a dodgy area when I last visited Vegas, as Pawn Stars has exploded. "The stars won't be there, it can be dangerous, and there is not much to do up around that part of Vegas".

I've never been and never will. No interest in the place and don't gamble, Even though I've been to openings of 2 Sydney casinos (once dressing Diana Ross who was the star act) poker machines annoy me & I can't follow all those card games.
I have a dear friend who lives in Queensway in some luxury probably a stone's throw from JK.Her father was the head of the biggest US poker machine company but she'd never been to a casino.
But tourism in Las Vegas has plummeted as it has In the rest of the USA including New York City. A new $250 visa cost doesn't help but all those stories of Immigration giving tourists a hard time don't help either.
I have friends who recently cancelled their US trip because of Trumpism and now are going to France where they claim a 5 star hotel is cheaper than a NY hotel.
I adore NYC but haven't been for 12 years now. I hated on my last visit that Times Square had turned into a silly Disneyland landscape. I loved it when it was full of sleaze !!
