It has avoided comment but the Letby case, along with the Post Office and Malkinson cases, has done something very very important. It has caused media and even a chunk of the public to be aware that the current system of justice, hardly changed since the 19th Century, is broken.
I hoped to do this with my case in 2001. I found it incredible that many aspects (such as not allowing a defendant one single second to find and present an alibi for different dates on an indictment) were so unbelievable they MUST be changed. But no, the Judiciary, Government and Media said FINE.
The difference with Letby is that she is still, technically, GUILTY. Both Malkinson and Post Office subs were eventually acquitted.
And my case, convicted once though also acquitted twice, remains untouchable by media and most of the public.
If my 2001 wrongful conviction is overturned, God help the system. Over to you, CCRC.
