mikemacca What sort of genius can take a record that sold 980,000 copies,making it (then) the 18th best selling 45 of all time. Then less than a year later, cover it, using only the title lines and making it his own song AND have it spend 3 months in the charts and a top 20 smash, again with no real group to promote it ?

Well someone had to show these sampling DJs how to take one hook and make it new and exciting. This was 1971 not 1991 !

JK was ahead of his time. I once asked Jimi saville how I could be as famous as him. He replied

"Do what I do, but do it first"

You can never simplify achievement in a few words when JK is around
