JC I think it's important to point out that not all false allegations are historical. In tha case of police trawling operations, e.g. the childrens homes in North Wales a few years ago, police interview all the pupils and encourage them to make allegations.

Transcripts from an interview with a child from one residential school showed the following interview technique:

Police showed the child a list of names of staff members and asked her which one she didn't like.

She hesitated then chose one name and said "Him. I don't like him."

Police: "Why don't you like him?"

Girl: "Umm" girl shrugs

Police: "What did he do to make you not like him? We know he's done something to you and it's important that you tell us what he did."

Girl looks uneasy and remains silent.

Police: "You'd make your mother very happy if you told us, and you won't get into any trouble."

No allegation had been made against this staff member until after the police interviews. The police called this girl back twice for similar interviews before she made her allegation. A later medical examination proved that her allegation could not be true.

The damage the police caused this girl by placing her in that position is also abuse, in my opinion. Sadly, she is just one example of many.

It is ridiculous that the Police will take more seriously an allegation with no evidence from 20 years ago than say getting beaten up today with people watching

It's MUCH easier for the police - that's why !
The "evidence" can be whatever they want it to be.
BR The time limit on everything except murder should be 5 years for reporting.

It is ridiculous that the Police will take more seriously an allegation with no evidence from 20 years ago than say getting beaten up today with people watching ( and they use the - we dont have enough evidence to prosecute mantra for almost everything )

It seems that where celebs and benefit scroungers are concerned the system is there to be milked.

Real abusers now get let off because the public rightly cant differentiate between real abuse and false allegations - often they both come with no evidence. Even when there is some evidence the abuser often walks.

Though I have every sympathy with the ruined lives of those falsely accused - having seen someone who was genuinely abused go through the humiation of a court case - only for the jury to be unable to reach a verdict I thing the FALSE ACCUSERS actually increase the likelyhood of real abuse happening. That in my view is a bigger sin than their false allegation.

I would like to think that all of us on here are totally against the abuse of young children and the exploitation of women for money of any age.

The Police turn a blind eye to the gangs who tout foreign teenagers in the red light districts of our cities ( Panorama said 5,000 are involved ) which makes their chasing of false accusations from 15 - 50 years ago even more crazy.

The Jersey case will probably lead to no prosecutions. Sadly whatever happened there was too long ago for any evidence to remain. The Police are sadly too stupid to actually realise this. They have probably spent a year's budget on this "archaelogical did" whilst I expect there are kids on the Island RIGHT NOW at risk - and where they say "They have not got enough resources to deal with these kids"

The lies our state and the Police tell compound the False Accusations - and we do the CHILDREN of 2008 a great diservice by pointing resources towards unprovable events of many years ago.

It is a SCANDAL !
JK2006 Quite right Veritas - the damage useless Victim's Rights organisations do to real victims by sheltering false accusers is massive.

Just imagine if the Shannon Matthews story had not concentrated on kidnap but on historical allegations? So much easier to get away with. Less chance of an adult breaking down and owning up to the truth than a child found lying.

No evidence needed - go back 30 years, pick a rich or celebrity to accuse - how could it go wrong?
And imagine the quantity of wrongly convicted ruined lives as a result.

Frightening.
veritas some of the so-called "Victim's" Rights groups are extremely dodgy and need looking into. Alternatively there are some people who are doing wonderful work with the abused and neglected kids but they tend to stay out the limelight-some groups are there to attract government funding.

I always remember the interview Billy Connolly did on Parkinson abiout being abused by his father when he was very young. He was emphatic-he didn't want to be treated as a "victim" but a survivor.

Some groups perpetuate the victimhood of people and continue their suffering-they are very dangerous and tend to be total amateurs.
