Quite extraordinary - not a single negative word about this man anywhere in the media. Just check out today (Tuesday) in the Guardian letters for an example.
The only conclusion is a rare one in this day and age - he really was a wonderful human being.
And even stranger - we all knew it and we all got it right.

His family say all he would have wanted In Memoriam is for people to be nicer to each other.
What a guy.

And isn't the wonderful thing that Paul's salad dressings are delicious?
I buy them for taste reasons - it's nice all profits go to worthy causes but if they didn't taste better than the rest, I wouldn't bother.
veritas
a truly wonderful man adored by everyone.
In 1985 I was in New York and a friend, an artist who lives with David Hockney asked me if I wanted to go out for New Year's Eve as I was at a loose end.
He went to school and been brought up with Scott Newman..Newman and Joanne Woodward's tragic son who died of a drug overdose, devestating them.
And there I found myself at 10pm heading up in the lift at the Pierre Hotel off to the penthouse not knowing whose party I was going to.
It was Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward's regular little bash for about 30 people..they hired the penthouse each year to see the Central Park fireworks.
I was introduced to them and didn't get to speak to them ( too shy) but what a handsome and charming couple they were.( those blue eyes !)
NB: remember Paul Newman at the supermarket..every penny of the profits from his sauces goes to charity. I know 3 that have received donations.

He was one of my favourite actors.
Cool Hand Luke - superb.
What we have here is a failure to communicate...
I still love his vinaigrettes - the best bottled ones on the market.
Only 83, from cancer.
I'm deeply saddened by this - I felt he was a real class act and his marriage to Joanne Woodward was what marriages should be.
