Sue, sue sue..that's my advice.
If the passport was acceptable to the Home Office they have an excellent case for a refund plus compensation. Immigration rules are not at the discretion of an airline representative.."jobsworth" sounds like the right description.
As for the threat of police action..that's threatening behaviour and defamatory.. even if just the man's family heard it ( as a recent case has decided)and therefore libellous.
This ultimately is the government's fault..demonising everyone and everything for pure crass poltiical purposes and giving every "jobsworth" the signal to push their weight around. This bloke should sue..he would not lose..the airline will settle.
I won't take any rubbish from people..I've demanded an official apolgy from UK customs and received one after they treated me rudely..I now carry the letter with me to show the next little dictator rifling through my bags and asking me rediculous questions which I tell them at the begining are none of their business.

Anti terror laws are being used against all of us EVERY day.
The CCTV excesses on London streets. The stop and searches at mainline stations all the time. Soon fingerprints on the street ( Terrorists usually have no criminal record by the way and their fingerprints are the same as you and me ) The parents sending their kids to school - anyone standing up and opposing the Government in any way.
We live in a dictatorship and the last 5 years have seen our rights erroded completely.
The trick of a dictatorship is to make people feel these laws are needed - Hitler did this very effectively and Germans thought they were free and doing the right thing. I never thought I would see the day when the British nation gave up their freedoms and incidents like the above happened.
I cant remember incidents happening like that with "Jobsworths" as you put it pre 2001 ? Give me an example of people being stopped at airports under anti terrorist legislation for dog eared ( slightly _) passports ? I think not.
You can try to find reasons for why this is happening and make excuses but I have been proved right time and time again.
I called the ROSS/BRAND incident as a POLITICAL event - and of course BROWN waded in having got his spin doctors to work the press first last night and got his way today. To detract the SHEEPLE from what is really going on.
The current SPIN campaign has been planned all summer. Just dont believe anything - look for what is really taking place.

The photo of the passport looks ok, but without knowing the rules or seeing the actual passport it's difficult to have an accurate opinion. I do think that the rudeness and the threats of using anti terror laws were unacceptable. Every effort have been made to work with the passenger and reach a proper understanding.
This seems to be a case of a "Jobsworth" taking things too far. Lots of them about unfortunately.
