Topic History of: Global Warming Weather at the moment

zooloo BR - - there is a very important difference between climate and weather and Global Warming is the mechanism not the result, Climate Change is.

Taking that in account would lead to very different conclusions. Not doing so leads to error.
Angel Thanks for the detailed response. Much appreciated.
BR Angel - I believe the BBC are often slow in the face of a story. They tend to only report when everyone else has done.

The KATE NASH single on Radio 1 is a classic example of this as well.

Therefore I can see the argument that the BBC is large and slow - and that explains this.

But when it comes to announcing BROWN initiatives and poll moves upwards the BBC announces it immediately on News 24.

In addition the temperature structure used by the BBC and MET does seem to average out temperatures. This means that the climate is presented as warmer than it actually is. For instance the Welsh Valleys saw Half Inch Iron Pipes ripped apart ( I would say that temperature must have been below Minus 20 for that to happen ) and in Poole and various other places the SEA FROZE ( some incredible pictures ) which would need severe low temperatures because the water is usually moving.

So far in JAN i would say that in the first 10 days the average temp is around MINUS 2 for the UK or lower. It could be the coldest JAN since records began.

The Global Warming agenda is driven by Al Gore - the thing that is forgotten is that statistics plucked from specialist research can be used to prove anything.

Until we have seen temperatures warming for over 50 years then I think it is wrong to claim Global Warming. The Climate always changes.

Therefore the BBC is "promoting" a political campaign. Even Cameron has fallen for this as well I might add.
Al Climate change and weather are interlinked. Scientists have always been divided on climate change, just as some said we had a serious crisis with the hole in the ozone layer while others argued that it was a natural cycle. Before any of the recommended action was taken to help save the ozone layer the hole bean to close by itself. Mankind often finds it difficult to accept that things can happen without our influence. Nature usually has a away of taking care of itself.

If we are going to have another ice age there'll be nothing we can do about it. But I'll guess that's a long way off yet.

-11 where my cousin lives. -6 where I live.
Wonderful January weather!
It hit -6 in late December in my town about five years ago also, so it's not remarkable. Not really headline news material.

I always preferred winter to summer. If I'm cold there is much I can do to get warmer. If I am hot, especially if it's humid, there is little I can do to cool down. I find that very uncomfortable.

I heard someone say with surprise that they discovered how an elderly lady was living without double glazing or central heating. "How has dhe survived?" they asked. When I was a child we had neither of these. My grandmother didn't even have an inside loo, and only a tin bath. Generations have survived worse winters than this. Younger generations are not used to being without central heating or double glazing, so they can't easily relate. Yes, people died younger in the past, but that was true in the summer also.

It depends on what we are used to.

In 1979 we had 3ft of snow in places. I had to travel 16 miles to work, and managed to do so despite the weather. The same happened in 1991, but that time we also had a 3 day power cut. The milkman still got through. Now they close the roads and schools, etc. if there is more than two inches.

A lot of fuss over nothing really.
Angel I'm still waiting for an answer BR. Is it too much to ask? You did start this thread after all.
