Everyone knows alcohol is a potentially dangerous drug. I want to live in a country where people are allowed, as adults, to make their own decisions even if some of them turn out to be unwise.
Why the desire to be controlled on every level? Plenty of countries have cheap booze and 24 hour drinking with few social problems resulting, but then if you treat your population like naughty children, that's how some of them will behave.
All the joy is being sucked out of life, until eventually we all become robots. This process is well under way. |

Just because a few people abuse alcohol and go binge drinking, it shouldn't mean that the vast majority of people should suffer. Putting up the price of cigarettes drastically has done very little to stop people smoking. Although drink is cheap in supermarkets, it isn't cheap in pubs. I spent £3.95 for a pint of lager in central London the other week. Most alcohol related problems are caused by people drinking in pubs and bars, not at home. I think the best way to stop binge drinking is to stop 24 hour opening, or perhaps reduce the alcohol content in beers and lagers. In Sweden most lagers are around 1-2%, not 4-5% like the uk. |

I agree with you, Angel.
alcohol is a dangerous drug. Why is it that we ban (rather unsuccessfully) ban cannabis, which can lead to psychiatric problems and possibly to stronger drugs- and yet, alcohol, which society has a real problem with, is on sale very cheaply in supermarkets.
There are millions of alcoholics, added to which alcohol misuse is the single largest reason for admission to A & E departments. And it is being discounted heavily in supermarkets.
I know, let's sell cannabis at Tesco's. 10p a spliff. |

Although i agree that Scotland has and always will be the UK's guinea pig, its actually being initiated by the Scottish Government to tackle the growing drink problem amongst youths. And quite right too. |

Governments always try everything out on the Scots. Privatisation and the Poll Tax are just two examples. Watch out cos the Health Nazis steamroller is heading your way. |
