BR What a sensible idea and it would work.
PBS The government have ordered the printing of a few billion pounds of extra money.

I think that they should give £5,000 to each adult citizen. It would then be spent in shops, and help the shops survive the recession. It will help pay the wages of those who work in shops, wholesale, delivery, production, etc. way along the line. It will be circulated and help society in general. Eventually it will also find it's way into the banking system.

I've heard it suggested that it should be put into the banks to enable them to give loans to those in need, but surely this will put individuals into deeper debt. The bank will make money, via the interest, but at the expense of those whose has helped to prop up the bank over the past years.

Far better to circulate the money throughout society without creating even more unnecessary debt.

But this is just the view of a financially ignorant mortal.
