BR Social Workers have a bad press. They are a "political" force of people employed by councils to clean up society's mess. They work long hours and get blamed for when things go wrong. They are rarely praised. So no wonder it is not an attractive profession.

New Labour has missed the chance to change their status - and this is how it could be done.
