Locked Out I've just heard the Met "spokeman" attempting to justify the actions of this policeman, whose actions appear to be both thuggish and bullying, with the "assumption" {his word, not mine} that as he in the vicinity he must have been a "protestor". Now quite apart from the fact that "our" police force have no mandate to engage in acts of common assault against members of the general public, either protesting or not, this is no excuse. If the Met now work on "assumption" in this way, then nothing could be clearer than the fact that this was an incident waiting to happen. One can only imagine what kind of condition Mr Tomlinson would have been in had the boot been on the other foot... how many ribs might he have broken falling down the stairs at Paddington Green? The answere, of course, is much better off than he is now.
I'm sure that there are thousands of terrific policeman out there, fair minded, interested only in serving the public they are pledged to protect and fully comitted to upholding the law. Isn't it about time they disassociated themselves from these Rambo characters who with increasing regularity are making thir way into our news headlines and reinforced the idea that British Justice is something to be admired rather than as a butt for the testy attentioned of jaded old cynics like me? If there are any such bobbies reading this please... please... get rid of these guys. They are exemplars of nothing. Just comic book heroes unfortunately transposed into real life. You might argue that the cop who accelerated Mr Tomlinson's heart condition to terminal speed was "just doing his job". If that's the case then "the job|" is no longer one which can command automatic public support.
BR Cant believe the "POLICE"plants in the media trying to justify their actions today. It makes me want to vomit.

They say he should not have been ambling - he was a legitimate target for the Police to attack !!

OUTRAGEOUS

The POLICE STATE is here - and just go and look at all the videos of the other VIOLENCE by the Police.

Our POLICE are out of control and if the Government do not deal with this issue and CHARGE the Officer then I fear for the POLICE - they will be targets for VIGILANTE JUSTIC.

There is no justification for the actions of the UK police over the last few years. Soon they will have an ID CARD with which to punish the people even more with most of us on a DNA database. We will be arrested and beaten up on a regular basis.

This is happening now on the streets of EVERY town - just read the blogs and forums everywhere. The Police are out of control. The media is trying to "play this down" but even they are beginning to ask questions about ACPO - JACQUI SMITH - and our CRIMINAL POLICE.

We need the MET POLICE to be disbanded and a new Borough Police force set up that is accountable to the PEOPLE so we can root out the CRIMINALS who now make up the majority of the Police.

As some people are saying - whenever you see anyone in UNIFORM - say " SHAME ON YOU" so they know how we all feel. If they attack you then contact the media.
veritas from as long as I can remember and attending protest marches back in the late '60s police have been removing identifying badges which should be an offence.

But these days-with them so well covered how would you really know which one it was ?

Also as an old hand, it's only ever a handful of coppers, just as it is protestors who cause trouble but all are tarnished.

But with the police it's the endless cover-ups that embolden those handful of psychopaths who take out frustration on an innocent news vendor.

Again this goes to the top and management is to blame.
I doubt this nasty cop could be charged with manslaughter but I have a feeling this matter won't be ignored like the Menendez case.
Innocent Accused The good news is that it's prominant news on most of the national newspapers websites.
Just got to keep the momentum going,so let's hope the Guardian will do that.
Time to bury the myth that the police are totally reliable. The whole judicial system is corrupt,so how can they be anything but if they're a pillar supporting it?
Dominic Dee Apparently he wasn't even a protester. He ran a newspaper stand and was on his way home from work.

Do the police forget they have these CCTV cameras everywhere. They lie about Mr Menezes jumping barriers and wearing a thick coat of the kind used to hide bombs, then the cameras prove them wrong. They say that a man dies after being attacked by protesters, and the cameras prove them wrong. Mistaken identity is one thing. Lying about it to cover your ass is another.
