I prefer Narnia - though I did enjoy the Hobbit.

Narnia vs Middle Earth - the ongoing battle between two giants (and good friends).
I go with Lewis though I'm in no way Christian (though I share the best values). The Hobbit is a wonderful book; The Lord of the Rings slowly gets sucked into its own delusions of intellectual grandeur.
Narnia is terrific.
Best new writer of "children's" books (for intelligent adults - Pullman just beats Rowling but like Tolkien and Lewis, both are marvellous I reckon. |

It was the most barking mad programme I've ever seen in my life. A 'discovery'??? I presumed the 'discovery' was going to perhaps be something quite mind blowing, but it was the most inane and often tenuous series of conclusions which were rooted in a 'theory' rather than fact.
I'm going to be the party pooper now... Tolkien was right. Lewis should naver have included Father Christmas in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The Lord Of The Rings trilogy is far superior to anything Lewis did. |

I watched it because I'm a lifelong fan of C S Lewis. I wasn't at all convinced by the "discovery" of the writer's "secret". It is no surprise that poems and stories by the same author may have close similarities. I felt that some of the comparisons were rather forced. But unltimately, even if the guy is right about his theory, I realised that I didn't care whether C S Lewis was making reference to the planets or not.
I notice they borrowed quite a lot of footage from the 'Beyond Narnia' program, featuring the late but wonderful Anton Rogers. |

Possibly the best and most intelligent programme of the year so far - if you missed it, do watch it on iPlayer.
I happen to consider Lewis a far better writer than Tolkien but either way it's a great show. |
