veritas as someone notable once said when asked about capitalism.."I can't say it's good or bad as I've never seen in action anywhere"

Personally I believe the 'bailout' was a gigantic mistake and although a lot of terrible suffering would have been caused by the complete collapse of banks and such-in the long run we would have benefited far better if a lot of financial institutions had gone to the wall.

Bailing out some business and not the thousands of smaller ones that also collapse because of Wall St etc's actions is unfair. Especially when the most strict rules are not placed on those propped up by us. But then we long ago passed the point where governments everywhere abrogated their responsibilities and allowed the corporate and media sector to basically call the shots.

As it is-our governments have given our money to places who will then lend us back our own money and charge interest on it.

now that's about the smartest rort ever invented.
Foz I don't blame them if they do riot. I heard a US representative of GS on Radio 4 during the night and could not believe his arrogant stance to the questions relating to their unchanged business practices and the payment of bonuses.

The same thing will happen again and the banks will just be able to ask for more bailout money because they are too big to fail.

This is meant to be happening in many places. The GOLDMAN SACHS announcement yesterday will have really stoked the protests against the bailouts as well.

Incredible to think that the taxpayer has bailed out the rich bankers with their tax money - they are now out of work whilst the BANKERS are paying themselves multi million bonuses for having made money out of the TARP funds.

I find it hilarious that people actually have let this happen without a total revolution.

We have in the UK given our tax money ( and higher taxes coming and come this year on loads of things including fuel ) to pay for the TOP TIER of rich bankers at RBS - LLOYDS - HALIFAX - NORTHERN ROCK etc.

Yet no one moans about it - we put up with it and allow it to happen. They get richer as they plunder more of our wages either by tax or in bail out money.

Wouldnt it be great if WE could go to the Government and borrow a few thousand pounds whenever we were in a tight corner.

BROWN and BUSH/OBAMA have destroyed the middle and working classes of the UK and USA by this economic "bail out" which was FOR THE RICH ONLY.

Remember loads of people working in banks at the bottom end have LOST THEIR JOBS whilst their bosses are still raking in massive million pound bonuses - reward for their bad management.

This is not a conspiracy - it is happening in front of our eyes - and we still all accept it without a murmur - and I expect someone will post " What can we do about it ? "

If that is the case - democracy has died already.
