Denise My sister left the teaching profession this summer after 12 years. Not because she has something to hide or any such thing. She decided that there is now too much government interference and the new laws making visiting writers register for background checks was the last straw. She says her school has a very strange feel about it now, and most staff have become uneasy.

robbiex Good choice Steve, they can't outsource teachers, so it's pretty secure and probably very rewarding.
steveimp I've just decided to pack in my job in the next two to three years and am due to start a PGCE course in September 2010 - to become a teacher.

Told work today, their first response was, "is there anything we can offer you to make you change your mind" and I said, far too late!

I'm 35, I need to do somethng else in my life. Teaching for me is the answer.
