So today instead of reporting the true economic figures last week - they are reporting on a SURVEY leading the headlines in several media outlets including TV saying the Recession is Over......
This is crazy.
The REAL figures say we are going deeper into debt every month - with jobless going up every month - with more companies going under every month and with shops and businesses closing more every month.
YET because a few people in a survey say they are more confident about the future ( these people have jobs still of course ) the press and media say the Recession is Over.
The same people said there was no recession until April this year ( even after over a year of economic disasters and the banks going under )
Our media has totally lost the plot.
I could run a survey saying that no one had any confidnence in Gordon Brown - or that Man Utd would win the league. But neither mean anything in real terms.
Right now people will be losing their houses and jobs - and wondering why the media is so out of touch.
The recession will end - end of next year hopefully - but possibly not for a number of years. That is certain. So why keep calling it every week since February........before half these people even recognised there was a recession. Back then we called it a credit crunch - remember because the media refused to call it a recession.
Innocent Accused
Personally think it's down to interest. We've heard so much bad economic news recently there's a 'fatigue' about it all.
It does belong on the business pages, but of course BR does love his conspiracy theories, and I do expect they make for interesting tales to read over the breakfast table.

Bloomberg? Isn't that the business news channel? Didn't you just just post "some of the press have put this in their business sections" as a reference to how they are burying it?
Face it, BR, it's not been buried or hidden at all. There's just not enough space on the TV news bulletins for everything.

The BBC and the media dont have a problem today spinning the very amazing news the RECOVERY is HERE - well the rate of slowdown is er....slowing down.
Every few weeks we get a GREEN SHOOTS week to keep everyones' hopes up !! They even denied that there was a recession until this year.....18 months after the credit crunch officially started.
The media in the UK ( and the USA) are basically incapable of just giving the main facts. They want to give us a version of the news which is to spread fear and talk up their own political future in the party they believe in ( The BBC are so biased towards New Labour it is in fact a scandal that we have to pay a license fee to subsidise the channel )
Locked Out
So in other words the BBC "hid" it on their publicly-viewed-by-millions website while it's also available widely elsewhere. Still... damn' cunning, eh?
Maybe next time you might consider a thread title like "The BAD NEWS they've publicly hidden in plain sight but I and millions of other people can find it easily anyway." But perhaps not. That wouldn't be nearly so much fun, would it? Wonder what you're going to find "hidden" next in all that cunningly camouflaged hypertext. I don't suppose it has even remotely occurred to you that if the BBC's intention was really to "hide" or "bury" the information the simplest and most expedient way would be not to write it up at all.
