veritas there is most certainly a horrible racist element to some of this and it's very sad to see.

Personally-I love America because it's a country where you find the very worst and the very best of almost everything including people.

I still think Obama is pretty much a politician like many others-the way it works in the USA is that once you become president you owe so many favours it's difficult to get things done.

If Obama gets his health care system up he'll go down in history as one of their greatest presidents. I don't have much hope he will succeed.

This is despite the World's Greatest Living Philosopher Naom Chomsky who has done hundreds of surveys using massive numbers of university students over decades-surveys that are far more comprehensive than any other in the USA-that show something like 70% of Americans want all the things like socialised medicine etc that most of Europe now takes for granted.

However the small Christian Right Wing which once aided the Republicans now run them.
Emma Bee According to the New York Times, as many people as died in the 911 attacks die each month in the USA due to lack of proper health care. I don't think health care is superficial.
giles2008 Strange that this lot were not out on the streets when George Bush was buggering up the US economy. I wonder if this could be because Obama happens to be black. The whole thing was probably organised and paid for by the major Health Insurance companies who stand to lose a lot if Obamas healthcare proposals go through. Dont think this march was anything like the EDL, there were no shaven headed, football hooligans in any of the pictures ive seen.
veritas the figure of a million comes from the protestors themselves..it isn't really credible although police etc routinely lie about numbers.

I don't think that one million could descend upon the Capitol..it was probably tens of thousands. The media in the USA would be all over this story as the constant "left" claim of US media is total rubbish...most US media is run by a right wing cabal handful including Murdoch.

I see the Billionaires for Wealthcare were there...they are extremely funny if you see their videos in youtube,

Obama's biggest backers were Wall Street which outs him in a bind depending on their own political views.

As for those protesting about government spending..it shows how clueless many Americans are. The spending of Obama's is mostly what was out it in place by Bush and their yearly budget for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would solve all US problems overnight.

These proestors don't know their history either..Obama has yet to spend a fraction of what Bush did on useless schemes and FDR's spending on the New Deal..hated by the right wing still today-sent the USA into it's most prosperous era ever.

Personally- I believe the right-wing is backing these clueless nuts about a proposed health scare scheme which would benefit the very protestors and it's highly likely Obama will be assasinated at some stage.
BR Having read the blogs of many who attended it seems that this march was the equivalent of our EDL - but from non football variety.

The 1.5 million - 2 million ( Having seen the aerial photos it is clear that these were the numbers ) are WHITE and ordinary Americans. I expect most are Republicans.

It does seem strange Veritas that so soon after he has come to power he is gaining the biggest anti President demo in USA history ( hence they dont want to report it )

I believe OBAMA has failed. Not because he is bad or wrong - but because he got the job and realised that he has no real power to change anything ( hence his wanting to change the healthcare - which is superficial )

I therefore agree that an attack on IRAN is likely by ISRAEL - and OBAMA will be expected to come out and support this ( though he does not in reality)

He has been boxed into a corner by the economic crisis and now is just a puppet for the TRUE FORCES RUNNING THE USA>

The crowd demonstrating were possibly many people who know the future is not good.....it is looking more likely that there could be Civil War in the USA if this gets worse.
