SW London's ghost town feel in August...mmm, let me think, quite a lot of people away on holiday that time of year, isn't there?

It was not as bad as that in August. Which areas of London did you go to?
BR The car industry is in such a bad state that it needs a second scrappage scheme. But I cant see that helping.

High Streets are losing more shops weekly. Having driven across London last week I saw literally hundreds of empty shops. Some High Streets had several in a row that were for rent and empty.

There does not seem to be any massive upturn in spending - though August's ghost town feel to London is now thankfully over.

Whilst this is happening we have a Labour government at its conference trying to pretend that all is ok and recovery is in sight.

Until they wake up to the awful reality of the problems they will not be able to deal with them. Darling says he will pay off the debt by 2017....but that is if we get a recovery....what will happen if we dont ? and we have not got one yet.

It may take 10 years to restore the High Streets to full capacity. It may take 10 years to get unemployment back down.
